Maccarunera is a complete example of the recovery of 'industrial archaeology'. In addition to the restored mills, a number of paths and structures built specifically to take water from the Tenza river and lead it to the mills located in buildings along the river are still visible. The recovery of the three mills that make up the current structure of Maccarunera (one of which was a pasta factory and produced macaroni) was very complex as they had been abandoned for a long time.

Maccarunera is located near the park of the Picentini Mountains, in a changing and magnificent landscape. For lovers of hiking or simply for those who benefit from contact with nature, there is the opportunity to walk along the paths that the park offers, with the possibility of encountering rare species of flora and fauna (it is not uncommon to come across rare species of flora and fauna).

The town is pervaded with mysticism, as witnessed by the large number of churches it houses, such as the "Madonne del Carmine" church, oratory of the "Monte dei Morti" confraternity, which offers a suggestive itinerary on the historical-artistic combination. From the church you have access to the town's ancient cemetery, the archaeological area dating from the 13th century and a museum of vestments and other objects of interest.

Formerly known as Civitas Campaniae, Campagna has been the main economic, administrative and religious centre of the Sele Plain for centuries.

In addition to this immense natural heritage, the countryside, the city of the two oases of Monte Polveracchio and Persano, is also rich in art, history and traditions, so much so that it represents one of the most interesting minor historical centres in midday Italy.

Campagna is also famous for being situated at a short distance from Paestum, the 'city of temples', the cradle of antiquity and one of the best preserved archaeological sites in the world.
