Top reasons to organize your event here...
Hotel Hermitage is a real oasis of peace, and we think that everyone should visit the place at least once. Still unsure? We have made a list of our top reasons for visiting San Marco di Castellabate which perhaps will sway your mind!
Castellabate with castle
Castellabate is a small pearl of the Cilento region located in the province of Salerno, in the heart of the national park. Its medieval village, located 4km from Hermitage hotel, is not only included in the classification of the “most beautiful ancient villages in Italy”, but it has also been selected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is characterized by narrow cobblestoned streets, ancient buildings that enclose elegant courtyards and terraces that can offer breathtaking views. The skyline of Castellabate is dominated by a 12th century castle and the little town is one of the most beautiful views of the coastline in Southern Italy.
Punta Licosa
Punta Licosa is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts in the world. It can be accessed only by foot, through a long avenue of carob trees, pines and Mediterranean shrubs. The protected area has a small island in front of it that seems to have inspired the poet Homer (it is said that Ulysses had himself tied to a tree in order to listen to the song of the mermaids, on the very Island of Licosa). This location is located about 5km from hermitage hotel and can be reached through a pleasant pedestrian path that runs along the sea.
Cilento nature
Cilento is the stretch of coastline in Campania between the Gulf of Salerno and the Gulf of Policastro. It is here that one of Europe's largest nature reserves is located: the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano, to which two marine protected oases have recently been added: Punta Licosa, between Agropoli and Castellabate, and Punta Infreschi, between Palinuro and Scario. Thanks to its extraordinary natural features, it was included in 1998, along with the archaeological sites of Paestum and Velia and the Certosa di Padula, in the world heritage list of UNESCO.
The Gulf
At the foot of the medieval village, the gulf between Punta Licosa and Punta Tresino is one of the most beautiful stretches of the Cilento coast. In particular, the bay of Ogliastro Marina and the island of Licosa are among the best-preserved areas of Cilento coast.
Typical products
Cilento is also famous for both sea and land typical products: here you can enjoy a red Cilento wine glass with the “soppressata di gioi” and “olive ammaccatelle”, or you can taste the marinated, fried or stuffed “alici di menaica”. There is also the cavatelli, a typical hand made pasta with cacioricotta or the “ciambotta”. A delicious mix of stewed vegetables.
Pozzillo beach
Pozzillo beach as one of the longest beaches of Castellabate. It connects the two villages of San Marco di Castellabate and Santa Maria di Castellabate.
Villages
More than towns, along the coast there are tourist "villages", in fact among the most visited villages we can find the beautiful Santa Maria di Castellabate, Acciaroli, the ancient Velia, Palinuro, Marina di Camerota, Scario and Policastro Bussentino. The most important cities are Vallo della Lucania located in the heart of the Cilento National Park, Sapri and Agropoli: the latter is the largest in terms of population and hosts the main port.
Outdoor activities
The diversity of the area, therefore, offers its visitors a wide choice of outdoor activities to do: from boat excursions in Palinuro and Marina di Camerota, trekking along the Calore Gorges, a zipline flight experience in Trentinara with "Cilento in volo" and much more.
Mediterranean diet
It is also the place that gave birth to the Mediterranean diet. This style of eating emphasizes plant foods, incorporates some animal foods (in particular fish and sparingly includes sweets, red meat and processed meats. This diet is one of the three healthy patterns highlighted in the “dietary guidelines for american”, thanks to its health benefits, primarily those related to heart health.
